Saffiano leather is famous for its diagonal lines and cross hatch pattern which are machine pressed into the wax coating of the leather giving it a slight sheen.

These days however the term saffiano is used to describe the typical cross hatched pattern and designers choose to apply a saffiano finish to a range of different materials. Saffiano leather was originally made from the highest quality calf leather.

The name saffiano comes from the cross hatch print that was pressed into the wax that coated the leather. The term saffiano itself refers to the distinctive cross hatch pattern on the surface of leather. As a result the leather is highly scratch resistant durable and exceptionally easy to keep clean. The classic saffiano leather as used by prada in the early 1900s is not vegan.

This pattern is pressed in to a wax coating during the production process resulting in a finish which is scratch resistant water resistant durable and easy to clean.
